Debit card fraud

In cases of debit card fraud, you are asked to send your debit card, because it’s about to expire, for instance. Don’t do this. We will never ask you to send us your card. Read about debit card fraud and find out what to do to prevent skimming.
 
 

How it works

will sometimes call or email you or write to you, asking you to send your debit card, but you also need to be careful when entering your PIN at a payment terminal. Fraudsters sometimes place devices or small cameras on the card slots of cash machines (skimming), or distract you while you are entering your PIN and quickly swap your card.

Preventing skimming

  • Do not enter your PIN if you notice anything different about the cash machine’s appearance, for example if there is a device on the card slot that was not there before.
  • Do not enter your PIN if you don’t feel safe, when a stranger is standing close by, for instance.
  • Do not get distracted while entering your PIN.
  • Do not accept offers of help at the cash machine.
  • If the cash machine has swallowed your card, block your card before walking away.
  • If you think that there is something wrong with the cash machine, report it to the relevant bank’s help desk right away.
