Before you start looking for a home, it is a good idea to calculate the maximum amount you can borrow on a mortgage and how much you would be paying every month. That way, you know what price range to look in. Or make an appointment with one of our experts in expats to get help doing the calculation.
Found a house you like? The next step is to view it and perhaps even put in an offer on it. It is often a good idea to have a buyer’s agent by your side in your house hunt, someone who knows the Dutch market and can, for example, tell you how the offer process works.
If the seller accepts your offer, the next step is to sign a provisional agreement. After signing, it is time to take out a mortgage. You can arrange a mortgage either with mortgage advice or yourself with our Mortgage Self-Service option, provided that you have adequate knowledge of mortgages. Find out what is the best fit in your situation or discuss it in a no-obligation orientation meeting.
As soon as your mortgage has been arranged, you can go to a notary to sign both the transfer deed and the mortgage deed. After that, you get the keys to your new home. Congratulations, the house is now officially yours! Remember to deduct all the costs you have incurred along the way from your taxable income on your next tax return.
If you take out a mortgage with ABN AMRO, you also have to take out insurance for your home. With our home insurance, you are covered for all kinds of damage to your home, including damage caused by fire, a storm, or burglary. In case of loss or damage, we will help you get it repaired and settle the claim quickly. You don’t need to do anything for that, nor pay an advance.
Buying a home often also means taking out a mortgage. And then there’s a lot to deal with and think about. What fixed-rate period will you choose? What type of mortgage? And what documents do you need? Read smart tips and useful information about your mortgage here. We’ll be happy to help you get a mortgage that is right for you.
A sustainable home is good for the environment, but it is also a way to save on your energy bills, and perhaps on your mortgage as well. ABN AMRO can offer a sustainability discount and various financing options for a sustainable home.
