More information & conditions
Excess
You will only have to pay an excess in the event of:
- Storm, rainfall or overflowing water, such as a leaking water pipe: €220
If you select all-risk cover when applying for the policy, you will have an excess of €100 for specific all-risk claims. In addition, you can select a voluntary excess of €100, €250 or €500. This additional excess applies per incident. You will receive a discount on your premium, but you will also receive less compensation in the event of a claim. If you apply for home insurance online, you will not receive an offer for a voluntary excess. However, you can select this after the application process is complete. You will receive more information on this.
Insurance cover amount
If your home (or part of it) is lost, the entire damage will be reimbursed to you. For example, in the event of fire damage. If you sustain damage that is covered, you have an underinsurance guarantee.
You will also be reimbursed for any other expenses on top of a covered claim. View the terms and conditions (PDF, 610 KB) for all the details .
Please note that you can only select additional personal possessions cover and glass cover if you have an all-risk policy.

Basic or all-risks cover
The basic cover insures you against incidents such as fire, burglary and water damage. All-risk cover also insures all damage caused by other sudden and unexpected events – even if they arise due to your own fault. You might accidentally knock over your television, for example. With all-risk cover, you will have an excess of €100 for all-risk claims. Some damage is never insured, such as damage caused intentionally. The terms and conditions (PDF, 610 KB) specify what is and is not covered.
Please note that you can only select additional personal possessions cover and glass cover if you have an all-risk policy.
During the online application process
During the online application process, you select either basic or all-risk cover. After your application, you can always change your home insurance policies (e.g. from basic to all-risk cover) or expand it (e.g. with personal possessions cover). If you apply for buildings insurance at the same time as applying for your home contents insurance, the same cover applies to both: basic or all-risk. If you would still prefer to have different cover per insurance, please contact us for a personal quote.

Frequently asked questions
What is home insurance?
Home insurance cushions financial setbacks in the event of damage to your home. This includes damage caused by fire, storm, water and burglary.
As a general rule, home insurance is not a legal requirement. However, it might be for some homeowners. A mortgage lender may require you to take out this kind of insurance in order to obtain a mortgage, for example. More information is available in the terms and conditions (PDF, 610 KB) of the ABN AMRO Home Insurance.
Are my solar panels and charging station also insured?
Yes, sustainable devices such as solar panels, charging stations, wind turbines and heat pumps and the associated cables are covered if they are attached to your home or are in the yard of your home. They must always be securely fastened or anchored.
Are smoke detectors mandatory?
Since 1 July 2022, it has been mandatory to have smoke detectors in your home. They warn you straight away when there is a fire, so you can take immediate action.
The government and your insurance company do not check whether you have smoke detectors inside your home. If anyone calls on you pretending to be a smoke detector inspector, do not let them in. This is a door-to-door scam by a scammer trying to gain access to your home to steal money or belongings.
If you have incurred damage and your home has no smoke detectors, this will not affect your claim. ABN AMRO Verzekeringen will not invoke the lack of smoke detectors in the event of a claim. But it is a smart idea to install them for your own safety and to protect your home and belongings. If you are a landlord, however, you will be liable for the consequences as well as liable to prosecution if there is a home fire and you had no smoke detectors installed.

Am I covered while working from home?
Working from home is covered, provided the risk of damage does not increase. If you or your family member use your home or outbuilding for business purposes, this prevents you taking out home insurance in certain cases. For example, if you have a practice space at home, such as a beauty salon. Or if you receive clients at home. Any questions? We are happy to help. Please do not hesitate to contact us. Does this apply to you? If so, you must take out business insurance for your home.
Is damage caused by my wood stove insured in all cases?
Damage caused by your wood stove is insured if the installation of the wood stove complies with current guidelines. ABN AMRO Verzekeringen will never reimburse damage caused by:
- Intent, gross negligence or illegal activity by you
- Poor or overdue maintenance, wear, rot or rust
- A construction fault of your home
I have a joint insurance policy. Why can't I view my insurance policies in Internet Banking?
