Important before you close your account

You can only close your account if you have a €0 balance. Your debit card expires automatically.

Close your account

You can close your account at ABN AMRO daily through the ABN AMRO app or Internet Banking. Go to 'Self-Service' and then go to your account you wish to close. You will receive an email confirmation after closing the account. 

Do you have another ABN AMRO current account? Then you will see the closed account number in your product overview in Internet Banking for another 15 months.

Close joint account

You can easily close a joint account through the ABN AMRO app or Internet Banking. Closing your account can be done by one of the account holders. Doesn't it work online? Then please get in touch with us. In that case, both account holders must sign in order to close the account.

Changing joint account to 1 account holder

Do you or your partner want to keep the current joint account number? Make an appointment with an adviser through Video Banking to change account authorisations and debit cards.

Are you closing your account due to a divorce? Check out which other day-to-day banking matters you can arrange in the event of a divorce  (in Dutch).
Last account to be closed

Are you closing your last current account but still have a savings account with us with a balance? Then you cannot close this current account. You need an ABN AMRO current account to have an ABN AMRO savings account.

Without a current account, you will no longer have access to Internet Banking and you will no longer be able to withdraw money from your savings account. You will also no longer be able to view your credits and debits.

Close Young Person’s Growth Account

You can close a Young Person's Growth Account at ABN AMRO daily through the ABN AMRO app or Internet Banking. Go to 'Self-Service' and then go to the Young Person's Growth Account. You will receive an email confirmation after closing the account.

Are you closing your last current account and does your child have a Young Person's Growth Account linked to this account? Then you can no longer access it to change the settings.

Closing your savings account

Most savings accounts at ABN AMRO can be closed daily through the ABN AMRO app or Internet Banking. Go to 'Self-Service' and then go to your account you wish to close. You will receive an email confirmation after closing the account.

Close other savings accounts

Do you have a Savings Deposit with a balance or a Royal Account? Then you can only close these savings accounts at a bank branch

You can close an Investment Savings Account by phone or by visiting a bank branch.

Closing account in case of death

It can be very painful when someone close to you passes away. Many things have to be arranged, at a time when administrative matters are the last thing you want to think about. If the deceased was a customer of ABN AMRO, there are certain things you need to do and should know. 

To close the deceased person's account, you must first notify us of their death. After you have reported a death to us, you will receive an e-mail within a few working days. This will explain what you need to do and the documents we need from you. It is not possible to close the account online. The account can be closed if the account has the status ‘Heirs of’. Does the account have this status and do you want to close it? Then contact us on 0900 - 00 24 (Mon-Fri 8.00-17.30, closed on Saturday). 

In addition, all banking facilities of the deceased will be blocked, such as access to Internet Banking. The same applies to other banking facilities, such as all accounts, debit and credit cards held by the deceased. Money can, however, still be paid in to the deceased person’s bank account.

Changing direct debits

Do you have a mortgage, investment or insurance with us? Or do you automatically transfer money to a person or company? Please let us know the account number, so we can debit the amount from the correct account.
