Using iDEAL, you can pay online safely, quickly and easily. You can pay a webshop's purchase through the ABN AMRO app or Internet Banking. No need to use an e.dentifier – even in Internet Banking. We provide step-by-step instructions, from your shopping basket to the payment confirmation.

iDEAL is getting a revamp. You’ll soon be able to pay for your purchases faster with your iDEAL profile and share your delivery address directly with the online shop, meaning you no longer need to fill it in. That’s handy! How to make iDEAL payments

Using the ABN AMRO app
  1. Under 'payment methods', select 'iDEAL'.
  2. Select ABN AMRO and log in.
  3. Select the correct current account and then 'Pay'.
  4. Confirm your payment.
You will receive confirmation that your payment has been successful. Finally, you will return to the webshop's confirmation page.
Using Internet Banking, without an e.dentifier
  1. Under 'payment methods', select 'iDEAL' and then ABN AMRO.
  2. Go to the ABN AMRO app on your phone and tap the QR scanner in the top left-hand corner. 
  3. Point your phone's camera at the QR code on the computer screen. 
  4. Now log into the app and follow the instructions.
You will receive confirmation that your payment has been successful. Finally, you will return to the webshop's confirmation page.
Using Internet Banking, with an e.dentifier
  1. Under 'payment methods', select 'iDEAL' and then ABN AMRO.
  2. Select the correct current account.
  3. Confirm your payment using your e.dentifier.
  4. Click 'complete payment'.
You will receive confirmation that your payment has been successful. Finally, you will return to the webshop's confirmation page.

I’m seeing a different payment screen from the one I’m used to. Why is this?

iDEAL is getting a revamp – in stages. That’s why you may come across a new user screen when you make an online payment. You can see what the new screen looks like below. 

You might see the ‘normal’ screen again when making a subsequent payment. Only go ahead with your payment when you see https://pay.ideal.nl/ and a padlock icon at the top of your screen on the iDEAL payment page. That way, you’ll know for certain that this is the iDEAL page and that it is secure.

How do I know if the payment screen I’m seeing is safe?

Always check first whether the online shop or website where you are placing an order is trustworthy. Check comparison sites and reviews, for example. Can you make secure payments there? Are there any contact details?

Only go ahead with your payment when you see https://pay.ideal.nl/ and a padlock icon at the top of your screen. This means that the page belongs to iDEAL. You can also check the URL of the payment page on checkjelinkje.nl (only in Dutch).

Can I reverse an iDEAL payment?
If you have made a payment using iDEAL and you want your money back, you cannot reverse the payment through the ABN AMRO app or Internet Banking. Please contact the person or shop that you paid.
