What is and is not insured?
You are insured for storm damage caused by:
- Wind force lower than 7 according to the KNMI (Dutch meteorological institute)
- A falling tree, antenna, crane or parts thereof
- Damage to the roof resulting in damage from rainfall in the home
You are not insured for storm damage caused by:
Wind force lower than 7 according to the KNMI (Dutch meteorological institute)
Construction error in your property
Overdue maintenance work, wear and tear, decay and rusting
We also reimburse this in the event of storm damage
Storm damage in or to your home is distressing enough. The following costs are also reimbursed if you discuss this with ABN AMRO Verzekeringen in advance:
- Costs of clearing up a fallen tree
- Costs of transporting and storing your home contents if necessary
- Costs you incur in order to reduce or prevent acute or an acute threat of damage

What does storm damage include?
Storm damage includes damage to your:
- Roof, tiles or chimney
- Windows and window frames
- Fence
- Sun protection
- Home contents
- Home, caused by fallen trees
Storm damage to your home is covered by home insurance. Storm damage to your home contents is covered by home contents insurance.

Is damage to my fence covered in the event of a storm?
Yes, damage to your fence is covered in the event of a storm with wind force 7 or higher according to the KNMI (Dutch meteorological institute). View the terms and conditions of our home insurance (PDF, 610 KB) .
If you share a fence with your neighbours, your insurer and your neighbour's insurer will pay 50% each. If you rent your home or you own a home that is part of an Homeowners' Association (VvE), storm damage to your fence is covered under the tenant's or owner's interest of your home contents insurance. If the neighbour's fence falls and causes damage to you, you can claim the damage through your neighbour's liability insurance policy.
If you are having problems with the neighbour's insurance company, you may be able to receive help through your legal assistance insurance in order to recover the damage from your neighbours.
Do I have a policy excess in the event of storm damage?
In the event of storm damage, a mandatory excess of €220 will apply. You will therefore partly pay for the damage yourself. If you took out your ABN AMRO Home Insurance before 14 October 2018, you may have a higher excess for storm damage. Check your insurance policy to find out which amount applies to you. If your home has been struck by lightning or you only have glass damage, you do not have a policy excess. If you have opted for a voluntary excess, we will add this to the mandatory excess.
