“We have years of experience in international banking,” says Max Meerman. “For example, we have a client who currently lives in the UK. Due to all the uncertainty surrounding Brexit, he is considering a move to Portugal. In such a case, we mainly act as a sounding board; we discuss the advantages and disadvantages with the client and their advisers.”

It will not surprise you that different financial rules apply abroad. “This raises a lot of questions,” says Max Meerman. “For instance, what should you do if you want to draw up a will while living in Spain? Which legislation should you take into account? In which language must the will be drawn up? Although we cannot advise clients personally with, for example, questions about Spanish legislation, we are a point of contact and we can help clients answer these questions.”

Insurance also raises the necessary questions from International Private Banking clients. “Another client of mine lives abroad. He recently bought a holiday home in Spain; a dream house. Everything seemed in order, but at the last minute he remembered about the insurance. Then it is helpful that we can rely on an extensive international network. The client therefore did not have to struggle with the search for a Spanish insurer and Spanish policy conditions. We were able to insure the house quickly with Private Insurance.”

Thom van Mechelen is a Private Banker at International Private Banking. As a young banker, he also focuses on younger clients and children of existing clients. For example, one of his clients lives and works abroad, but his daughter still lives in the Netherlands. “One day he called me and asked how he could help his daughter gain more knowledge of investing. He wanted to gift capital to his daughter, but in the form of an investment portfolio. I informed him that his daughter could participate in the Generation Next Academy. The Academy would enable her to learn more about investing under the guidance of a coach.”

It is not only important to think about suitable solutions and services for the client (and possibly their company), but also for the client’s family. “As a bank, we are focused on the future and would like to build a lasting relationship with the client. This way we can provide every generation with the best personal service. For example, together with our investment experts, we developed an investment game for our clients´ children. The game turned out to be a success. A positive development of this is that clients can have a good conversation with their children and other family members about matters such as assets, investments and gifts more easily.”

Serving Executives requires highly specialised knowledge and appropriate advice. Due to the nature of their position it is subject to conditions, for example the ‘insider arrangement’. We can help our clients by taking this into account. International Private Banking has a lot of experience with this. CEOs and other Executives of a listed company, for example, cannot simply invest in anything. At International Private Banking, we already know very clearly in advance what to discuss with these clients and what we need to open accounts for them and maintain these together with the client. For instance, we help you organise your investment portfolio, whereby companies in which you cannot invest are excluded. There is an efficient process for this that these clients can rely on.”
