Log in securely to Internet Banking

If you prefer to do your banking on your laptop or PC, the ABN AMRO app also comes in handy! You can use it to log in to Internet Banking with a code, just like with your e.dentifier. Simply scan the QR code on the log-in screen with your phone and then continue banking as usual. We explain how it works, and why it’s safe.

Who is it for?

If you have an ABN AMRO current account and Internet Banking, you can use the ABN AMRO app.

Costs

  • Downloading and using the ABN AMRO app is entirely free of charge.
  • You will need internet access to use the app. Your mobile service provider may charge you for using mobile internet.
Security

  • Device registration is a mandatory security measure for our app. It allows us to identify you by the device you are using to do your banking as well as by your identification code. You can only use the app if all of these details are correct.
  • The first time you use the ABN AMRO app, you will be asked to create an identification code. This will be the personal code you use to log in and transfer money. If you stay within your   you will not need the e.dentifier. Find out more about transferring funds without the e.dentifier.
  • If your device supports Touch ID or fingerprint, you can use these features to log in and transfer money within your daily limit. Your fingerprint will then be used instead of your identification code. Find out more about your fingerprint and the ABN AMRO app.
  • A jailbroken or rooted device allows installation of apps that have not been verified by the official app stores. These kinds of apps can do damage to your device or other apps. We consider this highly unsecure for the ABN AMRO app. Therefore, the ABN AMRO app is no longer supported on jailbroken or rooted devices. Some of the app features (such as fingerprint) will be disabled on these kinds of devices.
  • We do our utmost to ensure our customers can do their banking securely. But it is equally important for you yourself to be aware of how to use your device and your details securely. Read our secure Mobile Banking tips.
  • What if you lose your phone? It can happen to anybody. Just make sure all your details are secure now, so that you are prepared if it ever happens. One option is to enable anti-theft protection.  Find out how to set your phone and what else you can do.

Getting started with the app

The ABN AMRO app is secure. The ABN AMRO app and Internet Banking are both completely closed environments. Your data is encrypted and transmitted via a secure connection. No, you can also keep doing your banking on your PC or laptop. The only difference is that you’ll use the ABN AMRO app, not the e.dentifier, to log in to Internet Banking. You can of course do your banking in the app, but you don’t have to. Click here for more information about using the app to log in.

Yes, you can still use the e.dentifier to log in to Internet Banking after installing the app. Note that we will phase out the e.dentifier altogether in the future. The ABN AMRO app will then replace the e.dentifier. 

You can already replace the e.dentifier with the app by using the app to log in to Internet Banking on your PC or laptop. This is not only convenient because your phone is often within easy reach anyway, it’s also more secure because you can continuously update the app - and the security features - to the latest version. Find out more about logging in using the app.

You can add an extra profile in the ABN AMRO app. That’s useful if you have both a personal account and a business current account with us, as you always have easy access to your banking, but under separate profiles. Simply open the app, tap your profile picture > Add profile.

We work on security and improvements every day. As a result, we can regularly offer you a new version of the app If your mobile phone with the ABN AMRO app lets you know that a new update is available, you should install it immediately. This ensures that the app is always secure to use.
